Buying Wine

I get asked all the time, “How does one know what’s good and what’s bad?”  I believe it is the job of a wine merchant to seek out quality wines to offer to the public.  We work very hard searching for and tasting through hundreds of wines to find those that offer the best value.  When you shop at Colony Wine Market you can rest assured that we only promote great wines, no matter the price!

Fact: You can thrill your palette without emptying your pocketbook.  That’s the theme behind our Great Wines Under $15 racks.  We constantly refresh the stock on these racks to help you find a money-smart solution to your wine conundrums.

  • Hall Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa 2008 - October 7, 2011

So much of wine making is about the art of blending, and no one understands this more than Hall Wines Winemaker Steve Leveque. Hall takes what the earth provides from small blocks across the Napa terroir and lets each wine express itself purely and simply.

I’ve had the pleasure of tasting the current line up from Hall. All the wines showed extremely well, but one stood out above them all. The Hall Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa 2008 expressed pure cherry, a melange of dark berry fruit, scorched earth, and was framed with well integrated tannins.  The texture and complexity of this wine puts it at the top of all wines I tasted in 2011.  At $45 it dominates over others at this price and I dare say even at twice that.

    Richard Newell, Colony Wine Market

    Hall Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 Napa

“A dense, full-bodied wine with lots of creme de cassis, charcoal, licorice and forest floor, the wine is opulent and already delicious and powerful.” 95 points Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
